Personal arcana and numerology

How does the personal arcana work for people born on February 29?

Published on

People born on February 29 get a normal personal arcana: the math uses month 2, day 29 and the digits of the birth year. The site only accepts real dates between 1900 and 2100, so 02/29 is valid in leap years and rejected in all other years.

February 29 goes into the math like any other date

The calculation has no special rule for rare dates. For someone born on 02/29/2000, for example, the sum is 2 + 29 + (2 + 0 + 0 + 0 = 2) = 33. Since 33 is above 22, you add 3 + 3 = 6, and the personal arcana is The Lovers.

For someone born on 02/29/1996, the sum is 2 + 29 + 25 = 56, which reduces to 5 + 6 = 11. The personal arcana is Justice, and since 11 has two digits, the soul card is 2, The High Priestess. These two dates are only for illustration.

Which dates does the site reject?

The form expects the date in year-month-day format and checks that it really exists. Impossible dates, like April 31 or February 29, 2001, are rejected, because the calendar has no such days.

There is also a year limit: only dates between 1900 and 2100 are valid. That covers practically everyone alive, and avoids results for years outside the range the site has tested.

  • Wrong format or empty field: no result.
  • A day that does not exist in that month: no result.
  • A year before 1900 or after 2100: no result.
  • 02/29 in a year that is not a leap year: no result.

And what about the year card for someone with a 02/29 birthday?

The year card runs from birthday to birthday. The code compares today's month and day with your birthday's: if today's date has not arrived yet, the previous year applies.

In years that are not leap years, there is no February 29. By the code's comparison, on February 28 you are still in the previous cycle, and on March 1 the new cycle has already started. This means your year turns over, in practice, on the first day of March.

Is it worth worrying about this?

In most cases, no. The personal arcana is a symbolic theme, and a one-day difference in when your year turns over does not change the meaning of a reflection. If you prefer to celebrate on February 28, use that date as your personal milestone, knowing that the site's calculation follows the rule described here.

All of this is a symbolic tradition with no scientific proof. For decisions about health, finances or legal matters, consult professionals.

Frequently asked questions

Do people born on February 29 have a different arcana?
No. The math is the same as for other dates: month 2, day 29 and the digits of the birth year, reduced down to 22 when needed.
Why doesn't the site accept dates before 1900?
The 1900 to 2100 limit is part of the site's validation. Outside that range, the calculator returns no result.
Does the time of birth affect the arcana?
No. Only the day, month and year go into the sum, so being born near midnight only matters for deciding which date counts.
