The World is arcanum XXI, the last card of the Major Arcana, and symbolizes completion, fulfillment and integration. It shows a cycle coming to an end with accumulated learning. Reversed, it indicates something almost finished that still needs closing, or difficulty ending a stage.
What the image shows
A figure dances at the center of a large laurel wreath. In the four corners appear the angel, the eagle, the bull and the lion, symbols tied to the four elements and the four evangelists.
The wreath closes the circle, and the dance suggests lightness. The card shows a complete path in which the parts come together.
The end of a cycle is not a dead stop
In the Fool's Journey, The World is where the character arrives after passing through every stage. But the cycle does not end in a void: the card prepares the ground to begin again, once more with The Fool.
