Lenormand (Baralho Cigano)

How does the Lenormand yes or no spread work?

Published on

In the Lenormand Yes or No, you ask a direct question and draw three cards. Positive cards vote yes, negative cards vote no and neutral ones ask you to look at the context. The answer is whichever polarity prevails, but it serves only as reflection, never as a final decision.

How polarity decides

Each Lenormand card has a general polarity: positive, negative or neutral. In the Lenormand Yes or No spread, the three cards are added up. If two or more are positive, the result leans toward yes; if they are negative, it leans toward no.

Neutral cards, such as The Ship, The Crossroads or The Book, do not vote for either side. They ask you to look at the context and the question more carefully.

How to word the question

The spread works best with closed, specific questions, such as: should I send this proposal this week? Vague questions, such as: will my life get better?, produce answers that are not very useful.

Avoid repeating the same question several times until the answer you want comes up. That confuses more than it helps.

  • Ask something that can be answered with yes or no.
  • Choose a single question per spread.
  • Also read the cards beyond the vote count.

The limits of yes or no

A yes or no result is a symbolic reading and simplifies a complex situation. Individual cards, such as The Snake or The Clover, can carry nuances that the count hides.

Do not use this spread to decide matters of health, justice or money. In those cases, consult a doctor, lawyer or financial professional, and use the reading only as support for reflection.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if neutral cards come up?
Neutral cards do not vote. If all of them are neutral, the result is undefined and the reading asks you to look at the context and reword the question.
Can I repeat the spread until I get a yes?
It is not recommended. Repeating the question seeks to confirm a wish, not to reflect, and it usually muddles the reading.
Is the Lenormand yes or no reliable?
There is no scientific proof that it predicts outcomes. It works as a symbolic resource to help organize a doubt.
